In creating this assortment of styles, I wanted to offer a mix of hot new fashion and cool modern vintage. I hand select used and vintage garments for their quality, color, pattern, fit and fabric. My goal is to find something cute, totally unique and wearable for everyday life. Next, I upcycle, embellish and/or have the garments professionally altered by a talented local stay-at-home-mother. I like to play with current trends and I often combine tough elements with girly garments. These pieces are flattering, one of a kind, and much better quality than most things you can buy at the mall, all for a fraction of the price. I purchase high quality vintage accessories to resell, I also buy some new clothing and accessories which have a vintage inspired and indie style look. I always consider how a garment will fit and how it will be worn in everyday life. Nothing too short, too sheer, too complicated, too basic, or too common. My goal is finding clothing which is unique, flattering, and can be worn with several different outfits so you get the most for your money. Oh, and nothing I sell is over $50!!
What does Civilian Style mean?
In high school, I was obsessed with celebrity level fashion but never had enough money to buy the things I saw in magazines (who does?!). What I did have was creativity! I would dig at thrift stores and yard sales for hours, find vintage clothing and combine it with new things or alter it to make something trendy and new. I realized this was the answer to having unique celebrity inspired style on a civilian budget. Then I was deployed with the Army during my college years. I wore a uniform every day and I missed fashion SO much. I missed my civilian style and the ability to express my individuality through clothing and accessories. That is how the idea for Civilian Style was born!
